What to Do in Puerto Morelos

Although Puerto Morelos is a small and pleasant fishing village on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, you will find that there are plenty of things to do. It is the idyllic location to safely experience the essence of Mexico while learning to speak Spanish.

The town and school are adjacent to one of the most beautiful beaches of the Riviera Maya, directly in front of the world’s second largest coral reef. This natural marine park hosts a great variety of multicolored-tropical fish, rays and turtles living in its beautiful coral reefs. Snorkel this area for truly unforgettable beauty.

A less-than-five-minute walk takes you into town to enjoy tiendas (shops) and a plethora of restaurants—from coffee shops to fine dining to quaint, authentic catch-of-the-day fish and seafood. Besides seafood restaurants, you will fine excellent restaurants offering a colorful variety of international and national cuisines in the port side or in “La Colonia” side. For more restaurant information, visit in puerto morelos.

Our village also offers excellent, safe, public transportation with taxis and colectivos (small public buses) to take you across the highway to La Colonia. This is where most of the local Mexican population lives and shops. We will help you navigate this fascinating area to purchase locally grown vegetables and fruits as well as fresh-squeezed juices.

PUERTO MORELOS LANGUAGE CENTER offers optional weekly activities:

  • Cafe Social, enabling staff and students to get to know each other better
  • Latin dance classes
  • Mexican cooking classes
  • Handicrafts activities

  • And be sure to take a picture of the old leaning lighthouse that was ravaged by hurricane Beulah in 1967!
